The three gypsies
Lobby of the City Hall (access through Plaça Sant Jaume)
Sculptor: Joan Rebull, signed
Materials: Bronze on limestone base from San Vicente, polished
Joan Rebull was inspired by himself and two friends as a child to make this sculpture showing three naked boys caught her shoulders. He made a picture in 1930 and cast in 1946 before deciding to sculpt the group in 1976. His widow, Concha Farré first, gave the sculpture to the city of Barcelona after the retrospective exhibition of Rebull held in Barcelona in 1982, a year after his death. Another copy is placed precisely on the tomb of the artist's desire to him in the cemetery of Reus, where he is buried.
