The emergence of abstract art sculptures in the street caused a series of controversies. In fact, I broke out in 1958 when the cathedral, Josep Maria Subirachs, won the San Jorge ex aequo prize gave Barcelona Provincial Council, and some critics expressed their disagreement. When the Barcelona City Council also commissioned a sailor monument Subirachs stumbled upon the rejection of the Navy he did not want it to be placed in front of his building. Finally, the City Council set it before where it was the Fisheries Research Institute, at the end of the National Mall today Juan de Borbon, and was inaugurated the day of the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of fishermen, on July 16, 1960 . Although months later, the Falangist newspaper La Prensa asked to be changed to a more classical sculpture, a fisherman by Miguel Oslé.
