1992 was a year rich in new monuments. Very close to the Arc de Triomf of 1888, the french Bernar Venet put this other arch in a curved shape, in front of the old building of the Ministry of Health of the Republican era. It was proposed from the Urban Planning Area of Barcelona City Council, bearing in mind the lack of French authors and also the absence of minimalist sculptures. The Arc de Venet is where the Portal Nou of the city walls of Barcelona existed and wanted to allude to the renovating transformation that the old city was experiencing. On the way, it filled a space that was too empty. It is also one of the various works that, at that time, used corten steel as material.
