Gustavo Dudamel returns to the Palau de la Música Catalana

He’ll be accompanied by the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, performing ‘Turangalîla-Symphonie’ by Olivier Messiaen.


On Thursday 7 January, one of the most highly anticipated concerts of the year comes to the Palau de la Música Catalana. Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra will be offering the Turangalîla-Symphonie, by Olivier Messiaen, one of the most outstanding and monumental works of the second half of the 20th century. The pianist, Yuja Wang, and Cynthia Millar, playingthe ondes Martenot, are 2 deluxe guest performers.

The Turangalîla-Symphonie, first performed by Leonard Bernstein on 2 December 1949, is a grand symphonic poem made up of 10 movements, performed without interruptions. The work is based on the romantic legend of Tristan and Iseult. An hour before the concert, at the Petit Palau, Carlos Calderón will be offering a new session of “Parlem de música” [Let’s speak about music], with a talk on the programme.
